for yourself and in your relationships.

For individuals and for couples: to understand each other better, and to find each other again.

Access to the face is straightaway ethical.

About

Who I am

My name is Samy Ségal. I work with individuals and couples going through a moment of doubt, tension or upheaval, and looking for somewhere to set it down without being judged.

More often than not, it does not begin with anything dramatic. It begins with the quiet sense of having lost sight of yourself: in a relationship, at work, in a role you never quite chose. You keep going, but you no longer entirely recognise yourself. My work is to walk the way back with you, at your own pace, without anyone deciding on your behalf what you ought to find there.

I did not come to this work in a straight line. I studied law before psychology, spent some fifteen years in the corporate world, lived and studied abroad, and spent a great deal of time alongside people whom life had brought to their knees. Those detours are not parentheses: they have made me familiar with situations very different from one another, and with what it costs to move through a world where you have no place. That is the perspective I bring to a session, rather than a ready-made framework.

What heals, I am convinced, is first of all the quality of the encounter. Nothing here is applied mechanically: we move forward from what you bring, within a clear and confidential setting. In practice, I draw on active listening and on simple tools: reformulation, work on relational patterns, and exercises between sessions when they make sense. My certification in sophrology and my practice of qi gong have taught me not to leave the body at the door, because anxiety, anger and grief settle there long before they find their words.

My approach in three words

Listening
You have nothing to prepare and nothing to phrase well. You speak, I listen, and we find our way.
Setting
Confidentiality, regularity, no judgement: somewhere steady to lean on.
Connection
The work is as much about you as about what plays out in your relationships with others.

How it works

From first contact onwards

  1. 1

A first conversation, free of charge

A fifteen-minute call to get acquainted, to understand what brings you, and to check together that I am the right person. No commitment.

  2. 2

    The first session

We take the time to lay out your situation and what you have come looking for. We agree on a focus for the work and on a rhythm.

  3. 3

    Ongoing work

Regular sessions, usually every one or two weeks. The length of the work is never imposed: we review it together as we go.

  4. 4

    In person or online

Video sessions are every bit as engaging as meeting in person, and allow continuity when you travel or live far away.

Frequently asked

What people often ask me

I have never seen a therapist. Is what I am going through "worth it"?

There is no threshold of suffering you have to reach before consulting. A diffuse unease, a question going round in circles, a relationship that has got stuck: that is reason enough. The first phone conversation exists precisely so that we can talk about it with no commitment.

Are you a psychologist?

No, and the distinction matters in France, where the titles are regulated. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor and can prescribe medication. A psychologist holds a protected title granted after a master's degree in psychology. The word "therapist" describes a practice of support. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology and am currently reading for a master's at Université Paris 8, and I work as a couples mediator. I therefore do not use the title of psychologist: I offer support, I do not prescribe treatment and I do not make medical diagnoses.

How long does the work last?

Entirely according to what you are looking for. Some work is brief and focused, a few sessions around a decision or a conflict; other work unfolds over time. We take stock together regularly, and you remain free to stop whenever you wish.

My partner refuses to come. Can I come alone about a relationship problem?

Yes, and it is common. Working on your own place within the relationship often shifts the dynamic of the couple, even when the other person is not in the room.

Are sessions confidential?

Entirely. Everything said in session remains strictly confidential. With couples, we agree together from the outset on what may circulate between you.

Is video really as effective?

For the great majority of work, yes. It simply asks for a quiet place where you will not be disturbed, and a decent connection. For certain situations I may suggest meeting in person instead, and we discuss it together.

Do you work in English?

Yes. I spent some fifteen years in English-speaking working environments and I conduct sessions in English as readily as in French, at the practice and online. There is nothing to arrange in advance: simply book in the usual way.

How does payment work?

Payment is made by card at the moment you book your slot, through a secure payment system. You receive confirmation immediately. An invoice can be sent on request, in particular if your health insurer asks for one.

What if I need to cancel?

Let me know as soon as you can. A cancellation notified more than 48 hours before the session is refunded in full. Within that window, the slot can no longer be offered to anyone else, and the session remains payable.

None of the times in the calendar suit me. What can I do?

Write or call me: outside the times shown, I can often open a slot that fits your schedule, particularly early in the morning or at the end of the day.

Are sessions reimbursed?

Not by the French state health insurance. A growing number of private health insurers, however, offer an annual allowance for psychotherapy: it is worth asking yours, and I can provide an invoice.
